Some reported that the turkeys were so foul smelling they were forced to bin them before even putting the birds in the oven. A Tesco spokesperson said the store would conduct an investigation to establish why the birds were rotten. Bamford established his company in Staffordshire in when he left the family agricultural machinery business in order to assert his independence from his brother and several cousins who worked there. He paid 50 shillings for some welding equipment which he housed in a stable, collected steel from disused air raid shelters, and began to make farm trailers which he sold at Uttoxeter Market. In , he developed the first hydraulically operated two-wheeled tipping trailer, and by had amassed enough capital to manufacture the first hydraulic “backhoe loader”, on which he put the JCB logo for the first time.

Peaty’s certainly made a splash this year.

But it is much more than that with its many fine buildings, good shopping facilities and attractive layout. Most of which has been protected since , by Conservation Area status. Originally, the town lay only to the north of the Henmore, with the tiny hamlet of Compton to the south. However, by the 13th century trade prospered in Compton as taxes could be avoided by trading on that side of the Henmore. Ashbourne itself being Crown Property had to pay dues to the King.

Both are now joined together, though the old village street retains the name of Compton. This decides the sides for the famous Royal Shrovetide football games, which take place on Shrove Tuesday and Ash Wednesday every year. The goals are three miles apart and traditionally the game is played without rules, although one ancient rule is that you must not murder your opponent, to which one or two others have been added.

The game starts at 2 pm at Shaw Croft, after the singing of the National Anthem.

History[ edit ] Stafford means ‘ ford ‘ by a ‘ staithe ‘ landing place. The original settlement was on dry sand and gravel peninsula that provided a strategic crossing point in the marshy valley of the River Sow , a tributary of the River Trent. There is still a large area of marshland northwest of the town, which has always been subject to flooding, such as in , and Stafford on the 14th century Gough Map , at bottom centre.

In addition, there was a separate manorial court for the borough. When local government fell increasingly into the hands of parish officers from the late 16th century, the manorial tithings came to be styled townships, with Burton tithing the area of the original settlement lying outside the borough being renamed Burton Extra and the borough becoming Burton township. We would like a corner some where to sit and have a cup of tea and an office and we hope that all of this will be done by volunteers. We would like to have a work shop so that anyone with any spare time, and would like to volunteer to help restore the machinery up would be welcome. We would like it to be accessible for disabled and if we had to put a tea room up stair we would be looking at some way of getting disabled people up by a stair lift, this area would be a place where people of all generations could come and sit and have a talk and tell stories and reminisce of their time at Bamfords Ltd if they worked there.

We think that this would be an attraction to all who visit Uttoxeter and keep the history of Uttoxeter alive as well as Bamfords Ltd, and we would be looking at doing guided tours and a talk of Machinery to Schools and any group parties, we could also do a talk with a projector show of the history of Bamfords Ltd. We also may have to do alterations to the building which will have a cost. We would make an entry fee. We would be looking for sponsors.

We would be looking at grants and any funding that is going. We would have to do a running cost of how much it will cost each month so that we know how much we have to raise each month. The bills will be electric, gas, rates, water, and telephone This his where we would like any help in any way or form and guidance which will help as to get this museum up and running, but any help on the costing would be appreciated and of the most help to us.

It would be more cost effective to buy a property in the long run than to rent one.
